County project, program updates available online

Videos provide a look at what county departments do

Individual videos in a series of workshops between the Inyo County Board of Supervisors and ccounty departments are now available for viewing online at www.inyocounty. us. Look for and click on the “What We Do” link in the info bar near the bottom of the home page.

The presentations began in January and are expected to last through spring, as the county begins the work necessary to develop the Fiscal Year 2023-2024 budget. The idea is to better acquaint the public with the services and programs offered by county departments, to apprise the Inyo County Board of Supervisors and their constituents of successful and upcoming projects and initiatives, and outline core missions and responsibilities of individual departments and divisions.

The workshops also are helping provide a picture of the health of the county as a whole. The workshops have focused on the services the county provides to residents and visitors, from restaurant inspections, building permits, and mosquito abate

ment to senior center meals, parks, campgrounds, and landfills.

“Citizens often wonder what government does for them – it’s an extremely relevant and important question,” Board Chairperson Jen Roeser said. “Local government is where ‘the rubber hits the road;’ essential services, facilities, safety and so much more are the responsibility of local government, which is why we have instituted these informative workshops led by department leadership to highlight all the essential work delivered by our county employees who are your family, friends and neighbors.”

Roeser said the board hopes that citizens are inspired to listen, ask questions and take advantage of these informative sessions.

“We think you’ll find it encouraging to see just how much County government does each and every day,” Roeser said.

Department overviews

Most recently, the board was treated to overviews of the Clerk-Recorder-Elections office, the Environmental Health Department, and the Aging and Social Services arm of Health and Human Services.

So far, the board has heard from Health and Human Services, Public Works (including Parks and Recreation and Recycling and Waste Management), Information Services, the Public

Administrator/Public Guardian, Behavioral Health and Aging and Social Services divisions of HHS, the Clerk-RecorderElections office, Environmental Health, and the Agricultural Department (including Weights and Measures, Mosquito Abatement, Weed Management, and the Commercial Cannabis Permitting Office).

Upcoming presentations will include Child Support Services, Public Health & Prevention,

Risk Management, Airports, Probation, Museum Services, and Emergency Services.
