Ongoing LP CHAMBER PHOTO CONTEST

NIH GIFT SHOP

The Northern Inyo Hospital Auxiliary Gift Shop, in the lobby of the hospital, is now open Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from noon to 4 p.m. The shop carries a wonderful selection of baby clothes and accessories, unique gifts and is the only place in town that sells See’s Candy. The shop accepts credit cards.

FRIENDS OF THE INYO

Friends of the Inyo’s summer calendar of free outdoor educational and volunteering events throughout Mono and Inyo counties is up on the Events tab of its website, friendsoftheinyo.org/events, and is full of offerings to the public that include interpretive hikes, half-day volunteer cleanup events and multi-day backcountry stewardship events, naturebased yoga, and desert campouts. Most events have a limit of attendees to keep group sizes manageable and ensure a quality experience in nature while respecting habitat, therefore, early signup is encouraged.

AL AUXILIARY HALLOWEEN SALE

Saturday, Oct. 1 LAWS CHOO CHOO SWAP MEET

Check out the Eastern Sierra’s biggest annual yard sale at the Eastern Sierra Tri-County Fairgrounds. Gates open at a.m. Admission is $5 per person. All proceeds benefit Laws Railroad Museum. OWENS VALLEY CRUISERS FALL COLORS CAR SHOW

Take a drive to the spectacular Owens Valley to the Bishop City Park for the annual Fall Colors Car Show. Participants can register Friday evening and socialize, or register Saturday morning at the show - no pre-registration required. Follow the signs from Main Street. Friday evening – music and food trucks. Saturday morning – car show with a Lions Club pancake breakfast available. Cost of entry $40, judging by Owens Valley Cruisers, awards at 3 p.m. Saturday. ST. STEPHEN’S 41ST ANNIVERSARY

St. Stephen’s Catholic Church in Big Pine will be celebrating its 41st anniversary with an open house potluck at 7 p.m. on the corner of U.S. Highway 395 and Walnut Street. There will be a silent auction, 50/50 raffle, decadent desserts, fabulous dishes, and door prizes. Bring your favorite main dish or dessert for this fundraiser. Sunday, Oct. 2 BLESSING OF THE ANIMALS

Everyone is invited to have their pet blessed at a special service at 9 a.m. at St. Timothy’s Anglican Church, 700 Hobson Street, Bishop. The annual “Blessing of the Animals” service will be held outside on the front lawn and will include all animals, large or small, (including birds, reptiles and hooved animals). Cameras are allowed and the church also will be taking photographs. Complimentary refreshments will be offered to all pets and their human companions after the service.

BISHOP AREA LIFE CHAIN

The Bishop Area Life Chain, an annual pro-life event held each year on the first Sunday of October across the country and in Canada, will be from 2 3:30 p.m. on Main Street, Bishop. Those who would like to participate in the silent, peaceful and visual demonstration should meet by 1:45 p.m. at Talmage Park at the corner of Academy and Main streets. A variety of pro-life signs will be available for participants. Bring sun hats, water and those who need to sit should bring chairs.

Monday, Oct. 3 BIG PINE SCHOOLS

The Big Pine Unified School District Board of Trustees meeting will be at 6 p.m. in the BPUSD Conference Building on the school campus. All are welcome. Check the posted agenda on the district website after Sept. 29.

Tuesday, Oct. 4 COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS

The Inyo County Board of Supervisors meets in regular session at 10 a.m. with the agenda available at the county website, www.inyocounty.us. The meeting will be held in the Board Chambers at the County Administrative Center in Independence, 224 N. Wednesday, Oct. 5 NIH AUXILIARY

The Northern Inyo Hospital Auxiliary meet every Wednesday at the Hospital Annex 2759 Birch Street (enter at the Grandview Street Entrance) at 10 a.m. The second Wednesday of the month is a General Meeting. Other Wednesdays are devoted to making crafts for the annual Holiday Boutique. The COSO bird walk is an easy walk around the Bishop Paiute Tribe’s Conservation Open Space Area behind the U.S. Forest Service/BLM offices, 351 Pacu Lane, Bishop, starting at 7:30 a.m.

FFA PUMPKIN PATCH

The Bishop Union High School Future Farmers of America will present the 2022 Pumpkin Patch, which promises family fun for all ages, from 10 a.m. 4 p.m. at the school farm on Sunland Road.

GRACE LUTHERAN YARD SALE

Grace Lutheran, 711 N. Fowler St., Bishop, will be hosting a yard sale from 9 a.m. -1 p.m. Craft items will also be for sale. All proceeds will go to support the church’s missionaries in Kenya and in Mexico City.

Monday, Oct. 10 BIG PINE CANDIDATES NIGHT

The Big Pine Civic Club will be hosting a Meet the Candidates Night on at the Big Pine Town Hall beginning with a potluck starting at 5:30 p.m. Ribs and chicken will be provided by the Copper Top; Civic Club members are asked to bring a side dish and American Legion Auxiliary members will bring dessert. The regular Civic Club meeting will begin at 6 p.m. Each school board and sheriff candidate will be given five minutes to introduce themselves, followed by set questions from the civic club panel. This is a great opportunity for Big Pine citizens to meet and learn more about each candidates’ ideas and priorities before Election Day on Nov. 8.

The Bishop City Council is scheduled to meet in open session at 6 p.m. in the

The UCCE Inyo and Mono counties’ Master Gardeners Evening with Gardeners is scheduled for at 6:30 p.m. at the at Home Street Garden Center, Bishop, and will focus on transitioning gardens from fall into winter and questions about fall-winter gardening.
