Inyo county sheriff

The Independence Civic Club is hosting a candidates forum for Inyo County sheriff.

The forum is scheduled to be held at the Legion Hall in Independence on Sept. 29 at 6:30 p.m.

Candidates Stephanie Rennie and Eric Pritchard will provide an opening statement and will respond to questions provided to them ahead of time. After a break, the moderator will ask questions generated from the audience.

The questions provided to the candidates are:

1. What will you do as sheriff to prepare deputies to interact with the mentally ill population?

2. With five sovereign tribes in Inyo County, how will you respect sovereignty and still assist with law enforcement? What will you do to strengthen the relationship between the tribes and the sheriff’s office? What opportunities can you identify to collaborate with tribes?

3. AB 109 provides funding for prisoner-oriented development programs, and the Community Corrections Partnership (CCP) Plan created by Inyo County provides guidelines for creating these programs. How will you implement meaningful programs in the jail? What programs do you see as a priority?

The Civic Club encourages the public to attend. Light refreshments will be served.
